HOW TO PREPARE FOR A COLON HYDROTHERAPY SESSION

If you've got a colon hydrotherapy session coming up, here's the short version: eat light the day before, stay hydrated, skip the huge meal right beforehand, and come in ready to actually listen to what your body's been trying to tell you. That's the practical piece. The deeper piece — the one most people don't get told — is that how you show up mentally and emotionally matters just as much as what you eat.

I've been doing this work for 30 years, and I can tell you the sessions that create the most change aren't just about what leaves the body. They're about what the nervous system is finally allowed to let go of.

The Basics: What to Do 24 Hours Before

Eat light, not empty. You don't need to fast. In fact, please don't. A day of light, easy-to-digest food — think steamed vegetables, broth, simple fruit — sets you up far better than starving yourself or, on the flip side, showing up after a heavy, greasy meal. Your gut isn't a machine you switch off. It's a living system, and it responds better to gentleness than to extremes.

Hydrate well. Water in the 24 hours before your session helps everything move more comfortably. This isn't the moment to double down on coffee.

Skip the big meal right before. Give yourself at least a couple of hours of digestive quiet before you arrive. A full stomach doesn't make the session more effective — it just makes you less comfortable.

Avoid heavy alcohol or very processed foods the night before. Simple rule: if it stresses your gut on a normal day, it'll do the same the day before a session.

The Part Nobody Tells You: Come With an Open Nervous System

Here's what I've learned after three decades of this work: your gut and your nervous system are in constant conversation. The enteric nervous system — sometimes called your "second brain" — doesn't just digest food. It holds tension, unprocessed emotion, old stress patterns. When someone comes in braced, anxious, or rushing straight from a stressful morning, their body reflects that. When someone comes in willing to actually be present, the session goes somewhere different.

So here's my real advice: build in a buffer. Don't schedule your session between two back-to-back meetings. Give yourself 20 minutes before you walk in the door to just breathe. You don't have to meditate or do anything formal — just stop rushing.

What to Expect When You Arrive

Every session I do is tailored to what's actually going on with your body that day — not a one-size-fits-all protocol. We'll talk first. I want to know what's been going on in your belly, but also what's been going on in your life, because the two are rarely separate. Most of my clients start feeling real, noticeable relief within their first three sessions, but that first conversation shapes everything that comes after it.

What to Bring / Wear

  • Loose, comfortable clothing you can move in easily

  • A willingness to ask questions — I'd rather you leave informed than just compliant

  • Any specific symptoms or patterns you've noticed (bloating triggers, timing, stress correlations) — this helps me tailor the session to you specifically

After Your Session

Plan for a little quiet time afterward if you can. Some people feel immediately lighter and energized; others feel like they want a nap. Both are normal. Drink water, eat something simple, and pay attention to how your body feels over the next day or two — that information is useful for planning your next steps.

Why This Matters Beyond "Detox"

I'll be honest — I'm not really interested in the word "detox" the way it gets used in wellness marketing. What I care about is helping your gut and your nervous system get back into conversation with each other, so your body isn't stuck defending itself against food, stress, or old patterns anymore. Colon hydrotherapy is one piece of that. Preparing for it well — physically and mentally — just makes that piece work better.
